Plasterer in Troon: Plastering for Every Room and Wall

Ceilings, living spaces, wet rooms, stairwells, extensions and exterior render, with free written quotes

Plastering services in Troon:

Every part of a building asks something different of its plaster. A bedroom ceiling has to stay flat under a bright light, a bathroom wall copes with steam every morning, and a stairwell needs a finish that reaches well above head height. So rather than listing services, this page goes round a typical Troon property area by area and explains how we handle each one.

Decor Home & Business has been plastering for 20 years. We are fully insured, we give free written quotes and we take on every type of property, from flats and terraced houses to larger homes, rentals and commercial units. This page covers plastering alone. For painting and papering once the plaster has dried, visit our decorator in Troon page.

Area 1 of 6

Ceilings: Artex, Lath and Water Damage

Ceilings tend to show their age first. Textured coatings are tested for asbestos before any removal, then loose texture is taken off so the new skim bonds to a firm base. In older houses, lath-and-plaster ceilings that have sagged or cracked can be repaired or replastered, and ceilings marked by a leak are put right once the water source has been fixed. Coving and cornice can be repaired or added where a ceiling meets the wall.

Area 2 of 6

Living Rooms and Bedrooms

These are the rooms where light falls across the walls for hours, so small dips and old repairs stand out. A skim coat evens out a sound wall; where the old plaster has failed, a full replaster using a float and set finish starts again from the masonry. In solid-wall houses we can use lime plaster, which suits the way older buildings handle moisture. We work room by room, so you can stay at home while the job goes on.

Area 3 of 6

Kitchens and Bathrooms, Where Moisture Matters

Wet rooms need more thought. If a wall is damp, we find out why before plastering, because new plaster over an unsolved leak or condensation problem will not last. Once the cause is dealt with, surfaces are cleaned and primed, then plastered. We will also explain why a mist coat matters before any paint goes on, and let you know when the plaster is dry enough.

Area 4 of 6

Hallways, Landings and Stairwells

Stairwells are often the tallest walls in a home and the hardest to reach. We bring access equipment for high walls so the whole surface is finished to the same standard, top to bottom. Hallways take knocks from bikes, prams and furniture, so damaged corners and patches are repaired as part of the job. Floors, banisters and doorways are sheeted before we start.

Area 5 of 6

Extensions, Conversions and Exterior Walls

After building work, we often follow other trades, plastering new openings, partition walls and dry-lining where boards suit better than wet plaster. On extensions, we match the finish to the existing rooms so the join is hard to spot. Outside, external rendering and harling give walls a durable coat that helps protect the masonry beneath.

Area 6 of 6

Shops, Offices and Other Business Premises

For commercial spaces, we agree working times with you before starting, planned to reduce disruption to your business. Whatever the building, if we uncover a hidden problem we talk it through with you before carrying out any extra work, we clean up when we finish, and we do a final walk-round check with you.

Plastering in Troon: Your Questions Answered

Which room should be plastered first?

It usually makes sense to start with ceilings and the rooms that need the most work, then move on. We can plan the order around how you use the house.

Can you plaster a bathroom that has had damp?

Yes, once the source of the damp has been fixed. Plastering over an active problem only hides it for a while.

Is dry-lining or wet plaster better for my extension?

It depends on the walls and the timescale. We look at the structure and recommend whichever suits the job.

Can you reach the top of a tall stairwell safely?

Yes. We use access equipment for high walls, so there is no need to arrange anything yourself.
